Albright Theatre Announces its 2011-12 Season

The Albright Theatre Company proudly announces the schedule of productions they will be offering in their 38th Season. Once again, their membership has chosen a strong and diverse selection of titles that are sure to please their ever-growing audiences.
Season 38 opens at The Albright Theatre in September with Eat Your Heart Out, written by Nick Hall. In this delicious comedy, you meet Charlie: an out of work actor making living as so many do - waiting tables. Charlie finds himself working at number of different eateries in the Manhattan area - ranging from elegant to downright shabby. As expected, he encounters a wide variety of patrons - each scenario more hilarious than the other! Performance Dates for Eat Your Heart Out are September 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23 & 24.
Batavia's annual BATFest celebration just wouldn't be the same without an appearance from good friend, Ichabod Crane, and his arch nemesis, The Headless Horseman. That's right...The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is returning to the Albright Theatre! Washington Irving's familiar tale gives the theatre's younger actors a chance to shine and always gets a special "Albright Twist". The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is sure to surprise audiences again this year! Performance Dates for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow are October 14, 15, 21 & 22.
There is no escaping the second Main-Stage production: No Exit, written by Jean-Paul Sartre and adapted by Paul Bowles. This one-act play explores the idea of one's own personal hell by presenting us with a virtually empty room holding three people who seem destined to torture one another. Estelle, Ines and Garcin are three "fully formed souls" that are being faced with their choices in life, the consequences of those choices, and the painful judgment of others. The end of this twisted journey of self-awareness will leave everyone wondering what the in "hell" is really going on. Performance dates for No Exit are November 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18 & 19.
Take cover! The Herdman family is coming back to the Albright stage! Announcing the return of the holiday extravaganza: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. This heartwarming holiday tale is another Albright Theatre favorite. Audiences can expect to see some special Albright touches in this family-friendly production that proudly showcases the theatre's younger actors. Come share the holiday season with The Albright Theatre Company! Performance dates for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever are December 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 & 18.
The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh takes the stage in March. In this dark and wicked comedy, spun in the great tradition of Irish storytelling, the impoverished island community of Inishmaan is dazzled by the "glitz and glamour" of Hollywood when director, Robert Flaherty visits the neighboring island of Inishmore to cast his upcoming film. Cripple Billy, who would like nothing more than to leave the cliffs of Ireland and his tedious life behind for the hills of Hollywood, hitches a ride and auditions - not knowing how this journey would affect his life and the lives of everyone around him. Performance dates for The Cripple of Inishmaan are March 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16 & 17.
The final production of the season is Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful: the poignant story of an aging widow living with her son and daughter-in-law in a three-room flat in Houston, Texas. Fearing that her presence may be an imposition on others, Mrs. Watts believes that if she could only get back to Bountiful, her hometown, she would surely regain her strength, dignity and peace of mind. The Trip to Bountiful follows our Mrs. Watts through her physical and emotional journey home. Performance dates for The Trip to Bountiful are May April 27, 28, & 29, May 4, 5, 6, 11 & 12.
