Emerald City Hosts 6th Oz Ball at Navy Pier

Jun 16, 2011
Emerald City Theatre Oz Ball

Emerald City Theatre, Chicago's premier theatre for early learners and their families, will be hosting the 6th Annual Oz Ball Gala at Navy Pier's Grand Ballroom. This year's Oz Ball will be held from 11:30am to 2:30pm on October 16th, just in time to celebrate Halloween in the Land of Oz. Families will step into a colorful costume ball, attended by everyone's favorite characters from The Wizard of Oz and other beloved children's stories. Activities for the munchkins will include crafts, games, and dancing plus a special performance by Emerald City actors. The adults will enjoy a delectable champagne brunch, silent and live auction, and a turn or two around the dance floor with their munchkin!

Emerald City invites the whole family to break out their Halloween best to enter the merry old Land of Oz, where "Learning Through Play" makes for a very unique event. Children's imaginations will be piqued by Oz Ball's magical environment, as they become a part of it through creative activities programmed by Emerald City's Education Department. In Oz, Halloween is a cause to celebrate those special sparkles, feathers, capes, and masks-and the children (of all ages) who love them.

All proceeds from Oz Ball are used to support Emerald City's programs for low-income Chicago Public Schools students. For many of the low-income students who see an Emerald City Theater production it is their first experience with theatre. Emerald City continues to grow; yet there are still children in Chicago who have never seen a play. Emerald City inspires early learners both at field trip performances, on tour throughout the region, and in the classroom - support from Oz Ball helps Emerald City continue that work.
