The Maid Of Orleans

Strangeloop Theatre concludes their 2010-2011 season with The Maid of Orleans by Friedrich Schiller, opening May 6, 2011.

Playing at Trap Door Theatre (1655 W. Cortland St., Chicago), performances will run Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. through May 29. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students and seniors) and are available at www.strangelooptheatre.org or by calling Strangeloop directly at 773-757-6689.

In the darkest hour of a medieval war, The Maid of Orleans appears on the battleground, driven by a miraculous vision and a furious sword. The embattled French, cornered in a hundred-year conflict of succession with England, welcome the mysterious maiden, but friends, enemies, and unearthly forces stand between her and the completion of her divinely-appointed mission.

Rarely produced in English, Strangeloop's adaptation is a rare look into Schiller's epic work in an intimate setting. Though belonging to a long tradition of tales featuring the historical Joan of Arc, Schiller's interpretation provides a unique look at her story, exploring the nature of belief, fate, loyalty, determination and doubt through the wondrous and tragic life of this young girl who became a legend.

The cast features Letitia Guillaud, Nicholas Bailey, Nick Bonges, Geraldine Dulex, Jodi Kingsley, Mat Labotka, Kevin Lambert, Linus Lee, Keely Leonard, Martin Monahan, Holly Robison, Caro Servat, Paul Tinsley, Jamie Watkins and Michael Wagman.

Company member Bradley J. Gunter directs the production, featuring the work of Sarah Borer (Stage Manager), D.J. Reed (Costume and Prop Designer), Greg Hofmann (Lighting Designer), Glen Anderson (Scenic Designer), Travis Lee Wiggins (Sound Designer/Composer), Libby Beyreis (Violence Designer) and Dustin Spence (Production Manager).
