Theater Wit's "The Santaland Diaries" by David Sedaris Returns

Crumpet the sarcastic elf is unpacking his fairy suit and screwing up his courage for his seventh consecutive outing in Theater Wit's The Santaland Diaries, Chicago's annual alt- comedy favorite based on award winning humorist David Sedaris' true, hilarious holiday tale.
Chicago's only production of The Santaland Diaries returns November 26 through December 31, 2010 at the new Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Avenue, Chicago. Tickets are $18-$25, and are on sale now. For tickets and information, call the Theater Wit box office, 773.975.8150, or visit TheaterWit.org.
The ideal holiday tradition for people who don't believe in holiday traditions, The Santaland Diaries is the unconventional, uproariously funny story of David, a struggling young writer who reluctantly takes a seasonal job as an elf at Macy's and struggles to maintain his dignity. As Christmas Day draws nearer, David grows increasingly weary and bitter as he is forced to deal with the humiliations of elf training, obnoxious customers, and badly cast Santas. Will "Crumpet" find the Christmas spirit before it's too late? Probably not.
Theater Wit's Chicago 2010 production of The Santaland Diaries, adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello,
features the return of Mitchell Fain as David/Crumpet, and is directed again by Theater Wit Artistic Director Jeremy Wechsler.
Always one of Chicago's hottest holiday tickets, The Santaland Diaries has been hailed by Time Out Chicago as "a martini-flavored antidote to Christmas cheer." The Chicago Sun-Times called it "80 minutes of legit laughs," and New City raved "Absolutely hilarious. #1 Show to See Now." Gay Chicago Magazine praised elfin star Mitchell Fain's "drop dead comic delivery," while the Chicago Tribune called him "a natural raconteur in a production that feels fresh with just the right sensibility."
The regular performance schedule, November 26 through December 31, 2010, is Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Additional holiday week performances are: December 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m., December 23 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. There are no performances December 24 (Christmas Eve), December 25 (Christmas) or January 1 (New Years Day).
